In a recent tweet I said, “Jon and Kate fell victim to personal agendas while attempting to sell viewers another contrived family reality show.” I sincerely wish they would attempt to reconcile. It would be a true witness to their public portrayal of themselves as Christ followers.
I’ve seen quite a few couples reconcile in the last few years. They, too, were just like John and Kate + 8. They were Christians. They were married. They had kids. Like John and Kate they had allowed their relationship with each other to be replaced by personal agendas. The only real difference between the couples that I’ve dealt with and John and Kate were that John and Kate were reality celebrities.
Both have a common human problem. Pride comes before a fall, and affairs, and divorce, and child support, and the complications that blended families incur. Whether they be a celebrity or working class couple, human beings that allow pride to turn into personal agenda end up with a mess on their hands.
Do I feel sorry for John and Kate. Not so much. For the eight kids, absolutely. They deserve better than that from their parents. With all of the God talk from John and Kate, it seems that they would know that reconciliation is the path of a Christian couple. Does their celebrity status make it more difficult for them to reconcile? Yes, but only because they continue to choose to live their personal life on TMZ and Fox News.
I would love to introduce John and Kate to some couples that chose to put their personal agendas aside and let them see how humility, forgiveness, and hard work can heal a marriage. Heck, if John and Kate want me to put them through my counseling regimen I’ll do it for free like I do everyone else.
It would be great to see John and Kate plus eight lovely kiddos live as the family that God intended them to be.
